The national competition "Climate action through cycling" (Klimaschutz durch Radverkehr) provides funding for model investment projects on improving conditions for cyclists in specifically defined areas. The goals are to cut greenhouse gas emissions, improve the quality of life in these areas and to encourage others to follow suit throughout Germany.
One of these projects is the Veloring. In future there will be a seven-kilometre express cycle path around the centre of Friedrichshafen. This will extend the cycle path network and make the city infrastructure more cycle-friendly. This is a major step in the city’s energy and climate action concept.
Extending express cycle paths and connections makes cycling over longer distances a more attractive option. With the Veloring, the city of Friedrichshafen will help increase the number of cyclists. This will reduce CO2 emissions and contribute to local climate action.
70 million euros from the National Climate Initiative for 250 cycling projects.
